Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) Core Administrator - 106th Partnership for Peace Course
Within the framework of the PfP Partnership Work Programme, the Swiss Government, through the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), has the honor to invite qualified representatives from all mine action programmes and operators to this course.
The training will be based on IMSMA Core. The training language will be English.
Note: The training course is subject to the final budget availability. However, selected applicants are kindly requested NOT to proceed with any logistical arrangements before the final confirmation from the GICHD side.

00Objective
On a managerial level, the objectives of the course are to;
- Acquire knowledge on IM principles and concepts;
- Understand the importance of identifying information requirements prior to developing data flows (from collection to reporting);
- Gain awareness of the need to communicate and coordinate with strategic and operational personnel within one’s respective organisation.
On a technical level, the objectives of the course are to:
- Learn how to administer and use IMSMA Core;
- Configure IMSMA Core according to the programmes’ needs and in coordination with operations and programme management.
00Program and Method
This 05-day training course will familiarise the participants with information management principles and concepts, the role of information management in mine action, as well as with the latest concepts of the Land Release IMAS. In addition, the IMSMA Core environment is presented and participants learn how to manage users and permissions, content and groups.
Furthermore, participants learn how to configure the system according to their organisation's needs, through designing forms for data entry, creating maps and apps for data visualisation and validation, and configuring dashboards for reporting purposes.
Data management processes within the IMSMA Core environment are also addressed.
00Participants
This course is open to all Mine Action Programmes and operators. It is intended for participants from National Mine Action Programmes and their Operating Partners who are or will be posted to senior Information Management positions within their respective organisations.

▪It is important that participants of this course have strong technical database skills and team or project management skills. In addition, the active participation of students during the training is required, as well as good knowledge of English.

Introduction to Gender and Diversity in Mine Action.

Understanding International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).
In addition, the active participation of students during the training is required, as well as good knowledge of English.
Participants must have the following standards of proficiency in English (as described in STANAG 6001): 3221.

The selection process (to a maximum of 13 participants) will be completed over the following few weeks and will prioritize applicants from National Mine Action Programmes and their Operating Partners who are or will be posted to Information Management positions within their respective organisations.
The Swiss Armed Forces and GICHD do not cover healthcare expenses. All participants are themselves responsible for adequate insurance (health, accident and liability) or need a Governmental guarantee to cover any health care expenses in Switzerland.
00Cost
The Swiss Government will cover participant expenses for all meals and accommodation while in Spiez (11th May date of arrival, to 17th May latest date of departure). In addition, there are a limited number of sponsorships covering travel expenses from country of origin to Spiez for applicants with no other funding opportunities from developing countries. GICHD may request further information as necessary.
All participants are responsible for having adequate travel and health insurance for the whole duration of their stay in Switzerland.
00Equipment Requirements
Please bring your own laptop that:
- Runs on either Windows 7 or higher
- Has at least a screen size of 11 inch
- Is scanned for viruses
- Has at least 32 GB of free space.
Please note that we will install software such as ArcGIS Pro. Administrative rights on your laptop would be preferred. Neither GICHD nor the venue can provide you with a training laptop so please do ensure that you will have the necessary equipment.
