Online Global Gender Focal Point (GFP) capacity development programme
The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) is organising an online gender focal point capacity development programme. The intended audience for the course are existing or intended gender focal points from NMAA/NMAC, international NGOs, national NGOs, commercial operators, donors, and other partners. During the 20-week programme, participants will benefit from the dedicated support of a GICHD staff member to help them to mainstream gender and diversity into their working systems and practices in the most efficient and effective way possible.
The programme will be delivered in English.

00Objective
Through participation in this programme, trainees will acquire the knowledge and skills to work as an effective gender focal point within their organisation. The programme strengthens their capacity to:
- Negotiate a clear role and responsibilities for the gender focal point position.
- Conduct a desk-based gender and diversity analysis of the country context / area of operations.
- Use the findings of the desk-based gender and diversity analysis to ensure mine action operations are inclusive and effective.
- Conduct a diagnostic of the organisation’s policies, systems and practices to identify gender & diversity mainstreaming priorities moving forwards.
- Provide recommendations on how to better integrate gender and diversity considerations in strategic, operational, and employment policies, systems and practices.
- Develop and implement an evidence-based gender and diversity mainstreaming work plan.
00Program and Method
The 20-week online training is highly interactive and integrates group work, individual reflection, assignments, debate, and scenario-based exercises.
When enrolling onto the course, participants commit to completing pre-session tasks, attending live sessions, applying the knowledge and skills that they have acquired in their place of work, and contributing to group assessments.
The course is graded and includes points allocated for:
- Pre/post-test (30 points)
- Completion of pre-session tasks (10 points)
- Attendance of live sessions (20 points)
- Completion of assignments (80 points)
- Group assessments (60 points)
The course is split into three units, each composed of six modules. The time commitment required for each unit is summarised below:

Community of practice workshop
All participants in the programme are invited to participate in a community of practice workshop to share success stories, discuss challenges faced, and provide input on lessons learnt as well as updates on what they have achieved. This typically takes place 12 months after the course has concluded.

The course is primarily directed at existing or intended gender focal points from NMAA/NMACs, international NGOs, national NGOs, commercial operators, donors, and other partners.
Your application for the course must include:
- Letter of endorsement
- Letter of motivation
- Introduction to Gender and Diversity in Mine Action eLearning certificate of completion
- EORE basics eLearning certificate of completion
All selected participants shall be endorsed by their organisation. A support letter from the Directors/managers of programmes must be attached to the application. For reference, see the template provided by the GICHD. This letter must attest that, the participant will be allocated sufficient time to join all live sessions and complete the pre and post-session tasks.
