The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC) and the Gender and Mine Action Programme (GMAP), are organising, in the context of the Arab Regional Cooperation Programme (ARCP), a Regional Gender and Diversity Workshop from 10 to 11 July in Lebanon. The workshop will be held in both Arabic and English and is funded and supported by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the European Union, LMAC and Switzerland.
The ARCP brings together National Mine Action Programmes, and other relevant stakeholders in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The aim of the workshop will be to introduce the concepts of Gender and Diversity in Mine Action and cover operational aspects relating to gender mainstreaming. The workshop will help identify challenges in the region and potential solutions to tackle gender differences and inequalities in mine action which can lead to reduced effectiveness. The workshop will also be an opportunity to discuss good practices from the different participating programmes.
The workshop will offer an opportunity for the participants to enhance their knowledge on the topic, identify key issues and challenges relating to gender and diversity within the current mine action context, and propose solutions at a local level.
The workshop will take place over two days. It will comprise of lectures and presentations by the GICHD, GMAP, LMAC, country representatives, as well as other organisations. The participants will also have the opportunity to interact through small group working sessions. The participating programmes will present their progress to date on this topic during the workshop.
This workshop is intended for 2 applicants from each national mine action authority in the region (one male and one female from the authority who are involved in decision making or have worked on this topic in their programmes.)
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other stakeholders from the region are also encouraged to apply for this workshop.
The GICHD and LMAC will provide necessary administration and logistic support for all the participants. A support letter from the Directors of the programmes must be attached to the application, along with valid health insurance coverage in Lebanon for the period of stay, and a colour passport photograph.
The GICHD offers sponsorships for a maximum of 2 representatives from each national mine action authority/NGO that does not have the financial means to cover their participation and if the need is justified. The GICHD will provide support in the form of air tickets and accommodation during the workshop. LMAC will provide support and facilitate visa procedures to Lebanon. The participants are expected to arrive on 9 July and depart on 12 July 2018.
