Within the framework of the PfP Partnership Work Programme, the Swiss Government, through the Federal Department of Defence,Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), has the honor to invite qualified representatives from all PfP Partner States to the course on Results Based Management in Mine Action.
The course, organised by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), provides an opportunity for mine action stakeholders to develop and deepen their knowledge of Results-Based Management (RBM) in mine action.
Gender and Diversity
Both the GICHD and the DDPS promote good gender and diversity practices to avoid all forms of discrimination. Applications are encouraged from women, minorities, persons with disabilities and persons of all sexual orientation or gender identity.
The course is intended to equip mine action officials, practitioners and donors, with practical RBM skills, tools and methods to manage mine action programmes for better results and improved quality. Participants will learn about the application of Result-based methodologies across the different components of mine action, from the design of national mine action strategies to the development of Quality (QM) and Information Management (IM) systems.
RBM provides a framework to define and measure the impact, efficiency, relevance and effectiveness of mine action programmes. Unless progress can be measured, there is no way to be sure that a project is advancing towards its objectives. In this light, the course will also underscore the linkages between the application of RBM principles and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This course is intended for Officers, NCO's and civilian MoD and MFA staff assigned to peacekeeping operations, personnel awaiting deployment in support of similar missions that have or are planning to establish a mine action component or are involved in mine action in a similar form.
It is important that participants of this course have some previous experience with mine action at a programme/project level. Basic computer skills are required. In addition, the active participation of students during the training is required, as well as excellent knowledge of English.
The Swiss Government will cover participant expenses for training materials (excluding laptop computers), internet, food and accommodation while in Spiez (5 December 2021, earliest date of arrival, to 11 December 2021, latest date of departure).
Travel costs from country of origin to Zurich, Switzerland has to be covered by each respective organisation. It is recommended that all participants schedule an arrival in Zurich, Switzerland no later than Sunday, 5 December 2021.
There are up to three subsidies for transportation to and from Switzerland available from the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). Sponsorship is not guaranteed and requests will be considered on a case by case basis. It is imperative that applicants wishing subsidies for transportation get in touch with the GICHD at (email@example.com) before making any arrangements, and not later than the application deadline.
Return train travel between Zurich Airport and Spiez will be reimbursed (only second class tickets).
The DDPS and the GICHD do not cover health care expenses or any expenses that might arise for Covid-19 related matters, including quarantine/isolation. All participants are themselves responsible for adequate insurance (health, accident and liability) or need a Governmental guarantee to cover any health care expenses in Switzerland. Participants need to pay special attention to additional costs that might arise in case of Covid-19, such as hotel costs for quarantine, flight change etc. as they are not necessarily covered by the insurances.
The GICHD has the right to cancel the course latest two weeks prior to the training should it not reach the minimum number of participants. As well the GICHD will adapt the delivery of the course to the recommendations made by the the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health for all matters related to Covid-19. For this reason the type of the training might be adapted to a online or hybrid version or might be cancelled entirely should it not be possible to deliver a face-to-face meeting.
