NMAS awareness course on “Urban Threat Assessment and Building Clearance”
The five-day “Urban Threat Assessment and Building Clearance” course is aimed to increase National Mine Action Authorities’ (NMAAs) awareness of common procedures when considering Improvised Explosive Device (IED) contamination.
The course focuses on urban threat assessment and procedures for building clearance in order to enhance the understanding to carry out surveys. The course also focuses on challenges faced by operators conducting clearance of explosive ordnance (EO), including IEDs, particularly in the urban environment.
The course provides a forum for NMAAs that are experiencing this type of contamination to discuss challenges and share possible solutions that are considered or have been implemented.

00Objetivo
The aim of the course is to provide NMAA participants with an increased awareness of issues that they will need to work on when developing their National Mine Action Standard (NMAS) on the release of IMAS guidance currently being developed in relation to IED contamination. The course core objectives are to:
- Identify an IED
- Identify vulnerable areas and vulnerable points
- Gather information for threat assessment
- Interpret information for the production of a threat summary
- Identify suitable procedures for building clearance
- Identify suitable equipment for building clearance
This course does not result in a formal qualification to conduct the above mentioned activities.
00Programa y métodos
The course’s presentations, scenarios, discussions and practical group work on the training ground will cover effective and efficient implementation of urban threat assessment and building clearance procedures.
00Participantes
The course is aimed at members from National Mine Action Authorities from PM/WRA-funded countries who develop their NMAS on IED related issues.
Language requirements
Participants must be able to communicate and present in English.
00Precio
The course is delivered to selected National Mine Action Authority participants from PM/WRA-funded countries. Pm/WRA covers visa expenses, travel costs from the country of origin to Geneva, Switzerland as well as accommodation and food in Geneva.
Insurance
All participants are themselves responsible for adequate insurance (health, accident, and liability) or need a governmental guarantee to cover any health care expenses in Switzerland.
