The GICHD is happy to announce that it will be holding a Mine Action Information Management Qualification (MIQ) at Administrator Level 1 in Switzerland which will be supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). The training will be based on IMSMA NG6. Training language will be English.
During the training, the participants will learn:
The participants will be familiarised with Information Management principles and concepts, the role of Information Management in Mine Action, as well as with the latest concepts of the Land Release IMAS. In addition, the IMSMA data model and its user interface will be presented and participants will learn all IMSMA functionalities, including installation, configuration, customization, data entry and import/export. Participants will also be introduced to different search functions in IMSMA. Further, the programme includes an overview of the new enhancements available with version 6, as well as a session on the online IMSMA documentation IMSMA Wiki and the staging area.
The participants will also exchange good practices and examples by sharing experiences from different Mine Action Programmes. The training ends with an exam that covers both the technical and managerial aspects of the programme. The participants will be requested to draft a work plan that will help them implement what they have learnt during the training.
Applicants for this course are welcome from all Mine Action Programmes and operators. Applicants should have strong technical database skills and team or project management skills.

The selection process (to a maximum of 12 participants) will be completed over the following few weeks and will prioritise applicants from National Mine Action Programmes and their Operating Partners who are or will be posted to Information Management positions within their respective organisations.

The course, training materials (excluding laptop computers), accommodation, internet and all meals are provided free of charge for all training participants.
Travel costs (tickets, transit accommodation and subsistence) from country of origin to Spiez, Switzerland is to be covered by each respective organisation. It is recommended that all participants schedule an arrival in Spiez, Switzerland no later than Sunday, 4 March 2018. Limited sponsorship for travel expenses is available from the GICHD. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
