Mine Action Managers Course - 107th Partnership for Peace Course
Within the framework of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) Programme, the Swiss Government, through the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS), and in partnership with the GICHD, has the honor to invite qualified representatives from National Mine Action Authorities (NMAA), and National and International Mine Action Organisations to the Mine Action Managers training course.
Timeline
The course will take place in two phases, starting with an online learning phase from May 1 to June 15, 2025, followed by an in-person phase from June 16 to 27, 2025, in Spiez, Switzerland.
Gender and Diversity
Both the GICHD and the DDPS promote good gender and diversity practices to avoid all forms of discrimination. Applications are encouraged from women, minorities, persons with disabilities and persons of all sexual orientation or gender identity.

The overall goal of this training course is to enhance the participants' knowledge, skills and attitudes towards the management of mine action programmes. The course is designed to meet the following learning objectives:
- Confirm understanding of the governance and liability concepts applied to MA operations including IMAS, its relationship with NMAS and organizational SOPs.
- Apply effective and efficient operational planning and implementation of MA survey and clearance operations.
- Develop leadership and management good practices through the provision of individual tool sets and the enhancement of personal leadership styles.
- Improve the ability of personnel to communicate with and influence staff at the operational level.

The course is designed to improve and build upon attendees` existing knowledge and experiences of efficiently and effectively planning, implementing, monitoring, assessing, and evaluating MA operations. The in-person part of this course will last 10 working days and will include practical and theory lessons, as well as pre- and post-course assessments. It will be delivered in a classroom setting with presentations, Q&A discussions, work groups, individual and group exercises.
During the course, a fictitious scenario will be used for various practical exercises, in which participants may find similarities with their own programs.
In preparation for the in-person phase, all participants will be required to review the preparatory reading materials and complete mandatory online modules as a prerequisite for attending the course, starting on 1 May 2025.

This course is intended for staff involved in the management of National Mine Action programmes and national and international Mine Action organisations carrying out MA operations.
The number of participants is limited to 22. Preference will be given to individuals directly working in mine action operations. The GICHD will seek to ensure gender and diversity-balanced participation.
Language Requirements
Participants must have the following standards of proficiency in English (as described in STANAG 6001): 3221.

Language requirements are compulsory and have to be confirmed by applicants’ superiors - No interpreters are provided for this course.
Application
After preliminary confirmation of selection, a letter of recommendation from the applicant's supervisor will be required.
The registration form should be filled in no later than 15th February 2025
In addition to national and international staff of mine action organisations, the course is also open to NATO/PfP, MD, ICI and Contact States.

Cost
The Swiss Government will cover participant expenses for food and accommodation while in Spiez (Sunday, 15 June 2025, earliest date of arrival to Saturday, 28 June 2025, latest date of departure).
Visa
Participants requiring a visa should apply at the Swiss Embassy in their country. Invitation letters can be provided by the GICHD.
Transportation and Sponsorship
Travel costs from country of origin to Zurich, Switzerland has to be covered by each respective organisation. It is recommended that all participants schedule an arrival in Zurich, Switzerland no later than Sunday, 15 June 2025,
A limited number of sponsorships covering travel expenses from country of origin to Spiez might be available for applicants with no other funding opportunities from developing countries. Applicants wishing sponsorships for flights must contact the GICHD at pfp(at)gichd.org before registering and no later than the application deadline on 15th February 2025
Train tickets Zurich Airport – Spiez – Zurich Airport will be reimbursed to the participants (only second-class tickets).
Insurance
The DDPS and the GICHD do not cover health care expenses. All participants are themselves responsible for adequate insurance (health, accident and liability) or need a Governmental guarantee to cover any health care expenses in Switzerland.
Cancellation
The course is subject to final funding confirmation.
The GICHD has the right to cancel the course latest two weeks prior to the training should it not reach the minimum number of participants.
