ARCP Regional IMAS Outreach Workshop
The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), Mauritania National Mine Action Authority (PNDHD), the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC) are organising, in the context of the Arab Regional Cooperation Programme (ARCP), a Regional Workshop on International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) Outreach from 23 to 24 October 2018 in Mauritania. The workshop will be held in both Arabic and English and is funded and supported by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and Switzerland.

00Objective
The ARCP brings together National Mine Action Programmes, and other relevant stakeholders in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The workshop is essential to improve the clarity on mine action topics as well as to strengthen the capacity of NMAAs to use and apply IMAS, clarify the requirements of the IMAS for NMAAs, inform NMAAs on new IMAS developments as well as concretely contribute to the NMAAs’ work on the application of IMAS to NMAS. This will lead to more NMAAs developing, revising or updating their NMAS in compliance with IMAS.
00Program and Method
The workshop will offer an opportunity for the participants to enhance their knowledge of IMAS and specifically the relation between IMAS and NMAS within the current mine action context.
The workshop will take place over two days. It will comprise of lectures and presentations by the GICHD, country representatives, as well as other organisations. The participating programmes will present their progress to date on this topic during the workshop.
00Participants
This workshop is intended for 3 applicants from each national mine action authority in the region working on NMAS development or from OPS department.
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), UN and other stakeholders from the region are also encouraged to apply for this workshop.
00Cost
The GICHD will provide necessary administration and logistic support for all the participants. A support letter from the Directors of the programmes must be attached to the application, along with valid health insurance coverage in Mauritania for the period of stay, and a colour passport photograph.
The GICHD offers sponsorships for a maximum of 3 representatives from each national mine action authority/NGO that does not have the financial means to cover their participation and if the need is justified. The GICHD will provide support in the form of air tickets and accommodation during the workshop. Mauritania National Mine Action Authority (PNDHD) will provide support letters to facilitate entry to Mauritania. The participants are expected to arrive on 22 October and depart on 25 October 2018 at the latest. Participants are requested to confirm itinerary before tickets are issued by GICHD.
