Gender Focal Point Capacity Development Programme

Through a participatory and interactive training, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills to become an effective Gender Focal Point within their organisation. The aim of the workshop is to build sustainable capacity for gender and diversity mainstreaming in the humanitarian mine action sector. The course focuses on developing capacity to conduct a quality gender and diversity analysis and how to use the findings to mainstream gender and diversity in mine action operations and employment systems and practices. Participants will also be equipped with the skills to become active advocates for gender and diversity mainstreaming, and to overcome resistance from colleagues. Participants are expected to complete an online training module prior to the face-to-face training. The course will be evaluated through a combination of written and practical skills-based evaluations.

Upon successful completion of the face-to-face training, additional assignments will be set in the first year following the course, to demonstrate how they are applying the knowledge and skills acquired in their place of work. They will then be invited to participate in a subsequent workshop approximately one year after the initial course to discuss challenges to gender and diversity mainstreaming, propose solutions and share examples of good practice.

Date: Saturday 28 September to Thursday 03 October 2019

Location: The training will take place at the Regional School for Humanitarian Demining in Hammana, Lebanon
